Time to Dust Off Your Social Media: A Spring Checklist

Spring’s here, and while the world outside is getting a refresh, it’s the perfect time to do the same for your social media.

If you manage channels for a school, university, or large organisation, chances are your feeds could use a little dusting off. From outdated bios to forgotten admin permissions, small things pile up. This checklist is here to help you clear the cobwebs, refocus your content, and make sure your channels are set up for a strong season ahead.

1. Give Your Bios and Links a Health Check

When was the last time you looked at your Instagram bio or your Facebook “About” section? Things change quickly—make sure your bios still reflect your brand’s voice and current priorities. Also, test every link. A broken URL to an outdated campaign page is an easy fix that makes a big difference.

Quick wins:

  • Update bios to reflect current messaging or campaigns
  • Replace old links with relevant landing pages
  • Add a seasonal call to action if it fits (like enrolment or open days)

2. Review Admin Access

People leave. Roles shift. And yet, old logins linger longer than they should. It’s a security risk and a housekeeping issue.

Do this now:

  • Check who has access to each platform
  • Remove permissions for past team members or agencies
  • Assign the right roles to current staff

3. Refresh Your Content Calendar

Is your content plan still aligned with what’s happening across your organisation? Are upcoming milestones—like open days, graduation, or exam periods—factored in? It’s also a good time to spot any gaps or chances to lean into seasonal trends.

Things to consider:

  • Update your content pillars if needed
  • Plug in key dates and campaigns
  • Leave space for reactive or real-time content

4. Update Creative Assets

If you’re using the same templates you launched last year, it might be time for a refresh. Audiences notice visuals that feel repetitive or off-brand.

Try this:

  • Rework templates to include updated branding or seasonal elements
  • Experiment with new formats like Reels, Stories, or carousels
  • Make sure accessibility (alt text, contrast, captions) is built into your assets

5. Declutter Your Tools

You’re likely juggling a few platforms—maybe a scheduling tool, reporting dashboards, and a content library. Are they all still working for you? Any overlap? Anything expired or underused?

Your tool check:

  • Review what tools you’re using and why
  • Cancel anything that’s no longer useful
  • Make sure everything’s integrated and up to date

6. Measure What’s Working

Before you dive into spring content, take a look back. What’s performed well? What didn’t land? Use those insights to guide what you do next—not just to hit targets, but to connect more meaningfully with your audience.

Review:

  • Your top posts by engagement
  • What drove the most clicks or sign-ups
  • Which content types (video, text, graphics) performed best

Sometimes it helps to talk it through. If you want a quick chat to sense-check your strategy or walk through your current setup, grab a 15-minute virtual coffee with Dan. No pressure, no sales pitch, just useful advice and a second opinion from someone who gets it.

Social media moves fast, and it’s easy to fall into reactive mode. This checklist gives you a reason, and a structure, to pause, tidy up, and move forward with more clarity.

Tackle one step at a time, and by the end of the week, your channels will be cleaner, sharper, and more aligned with what your audience actually needs.
